The Marshfield Civic Band is
open to all interested musicians from the immediate Marshfield,
Wis. area, as well as from outlying areas. In the past, we
had one member who lived approximately 50 miles from Marshfield.
It is expected that prospective
new members have had some prior experience in playing an
instrument. In most cases, with another band or group. And
they must at least be entering the ninth grade, if still in
school. Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the
conductor. The only other requirements are a desire to
perform and a love of music.
Auditions are held each year, for
part/chair placement in the woodwind and brass sections of the
band. Individual auditions are brief(no more than 10
minutes in length) and private. Those musicians who do not
audition will be assigned their parts and chairs completely at
the director's discretion.
NOTE: These auditions are
NOT meant to exclude any eligible musician from the Marshfield
Civic Band. They are meant to give the director a better
idea of the strengths and abilities of players and to assign
them chairs and parts based upon how that individual can best
contribute to the musical needs of the ensemble.
Rehearsals are held on Tuesday
evenings, starting promptly at 7 PM and generally run until
8:30-9 PM. They start in May and run through the month of
July. Rehearsals are held in Room 332 of the Helen Conner Laird
Fine Arts Building, located on the University of
Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County campus at 2000 W. 5th Street in
Marshfield, WI.
